Double baptism!

We had a miracle baptism! Cristhofer, a ten-year old that we have been teaching, came to church with us last Sunday. He had such a good experience that he was excitedly waiting for us Monday night. We started to read the book of Mormon with him, because he hadn't read that day, and after the first verse, he asked if he could invite his mom. We didn't really understand what he was saying, but he ran into the other room and invited her, and then came back and said she would join us in a minute. When she came, he turned to her and said, ''Mom, will you please let me be baptized?'' She said, ''If it's what you want.'' And so he was baptized Saturday. :) One of our ward missionaries brought him to church on Sunday. We also found a really awesome family that came to church with us. I am praying so hard to find good fellowshiping for them. They are really really awesome. 

Also, I would really like to be able to extend until March or April, I don't know if Elder Fackrell has told you anything, but i've really prayed about it and I want to extend. I feel that I would regret it if I didn't. You can work out the details with him.

I love you very very much. Thanks for telling me about the package. :) I hope it doesn't take too long to get here. :) 

We are going to sing ''we are the world'' in spanish (Michael Jackson) and I am going to sing ''Mary's Lullubye''. Also in Spanish. Also, Seize the Day in english and Do you hear the people sing, in Spanish. And a buch of christmas songs, of course. Hymns. :)

I get to stay in Monserrate with Hna. Bond one more transfer!

Hey. Life is good. Hermana Bond and I have had to give 2 really

awesome baptisms over to the office elders because they live in

their part of the ward. We've decided that it's because they're

being obedient. So we're going to be more obedient. But it's a

blessing to help people in the gospel, even if we don't have the 

opportunity to teach them. One of the referrals is probably the

most prepared person that I have met in my mission. Like, she

had already gone to another ward several times with a friend,

was reading the Book of Mormon, and accepted the invitation

to pray about it and to be baptized. She told us Sunday that

she had had an incredible sensation when she prayed

(we didn't know until we met her in the lesson that she was

from the other area). It was cool

I just got it. So, one of these days I will send you pictures. 

Promise. Maybe today, if there's time.

Rosa, Angel and Junior's mom, came to church yesterday! 

It was awesome. We're going to blow this ward out of the water. 

Yesterday we had the opportunity to help out a young mother 

who was crying about how her son never listens to her. 

He's four, and he doesn't like to do things when people tell 

him to. I thought of myself. haha. 

Anyway, I love you all very very much! I hope that I can be 

the kind of missionary that you expect me to be. :)

 Hey! Thanks for writing, Mom and Dad. Ugh. Here 

in the internet, there are like, 3 different songs 

blaring. It's super nerve-grating. We were able to 

have investigators in two of the conference sessions.

I really cannot think with this music. I hope that

you seek a lot of guidance in when you should 

serve, dearest siblings. Probably the most important

preparation is just learning to love people. All people.

Being able to care genuinely for them on a personal

level. Wanting to listen to them and help them

with their problems. Then, the desire to share the 

gospel comes naturaly, and the ability to do it 

comes as you learn it. And as you learn it, you

want to live it, and as you live it, you love people 

more. Love is a product of the Atonement and is 

what we receive when we accept Christ as our Savior.

And we do it living the gospel. Moroni 8:25-26. :)

Thanks for writing, Mom! Today has been crazy. My companion had to go to the clinic in the morning, so we've just barely eaten and now we're writing. I guess that's a blessing, because I got to read your email. If we'd gone in the morning, I wouldn't have had anything. :) I also got your handwritten letters. :) Thanks for writing. You guys are the best!

You know what? The Turks told us that if we want to, we can have our family send a ballot and we can vote. I don't even know what's going on in the US. haha. But I can vote, I suppose. Also, I'm really debating asking you to send my straightener. I know that's a weird thing to ask for after a year out, but I made the mistake of cutting myself bangs and they're driving me crazy! haha.

I love you bunches, Mom. You motivate me to be more diligent. I want to be a good sister and a good daughter. I know sometimes I'm really terrible and prideful, but the great thing about service is that it weeds those things out of you. But it's a painfully slow process sometimes. Sometimes I just want to BE Perfect. But that wouldn't require nearly as much faith. :)

I'm glad your recovering...from everything. Keep being awesome! ;) And give everyone hugs for me!

Well, another week has come and gone. It's crazy how fast time flies. I got your letters. :) Thanks. Kirsti, put my laptop back. I totally did not give you permission to use it as a dipboard. haha. And my spanish accent isn't that bad. I still speak english sometimes. Sometimes I still wish that I could teach in English. It's hard enough teaching and talking with people. In a foreign language sometimes I still can't express myself like I would like to. But it comes with time and with diligent study. I need to be more diligent.

Well, I love you all very very much! This week no one came to church. There were a couple of investigators who were going to come with a less active family that is reactivating, but the less active family couldn't come. We should have followed up better with that. But we're going to visit them today. Ema is the mother of a recent convert, Isabel. She's come to church several times, but doesn't understand why we ask her to be baptized when she's already been baptized. María also. María has one newborn daughter.
She's catholic and very sweet and sincere. 

Anyway, My time is just about up. I love you! The gospel is true!

Dear family, 

I want you to know that you are all in my prayers and in the prayers of my companion, Sister Pajares. This week has been great. I love you all. I want to share my testimony with you that I know that this church is true. I know that the gospel is true. I know that if we work diligently and have faith, the Lord can work miracles in our lives and in the lives of those we serve. Many times, it won't be in the first attempt, nor in the second. Every time we fall short or things don't go exactly as we would have liked, we need to see if what we are doing is what the Lord would have us do, and what we can improve. There are always things that we can improve, and we have to trust that the Lord will answer our prayers and help us to achieve what we want. That is probably the most valuable thing that i've learned (or started to learn) here. Many times we fast and pray fervently for people, but that doesn't mean that they come to church or that they keep their commitments. I tend to be rather prone to hopelessness, but I truly believe that the Lord can work miracles. I know he can. And if he can, we just have to do our part. If it didn't work last week, what do we need to change this week? Think about it. I know that the Atonement is real. I've felt it change me and heal me, and I know that that can be a reality for each and every one of us, because we are God's children and he wants the best for us. He wants us to become like Him. Have faith. :)

Querida Familia Mia,

This week has been crazy. Wow. We are at the end of my first transfer in Huaraz! Wow. (The first of many, I hope.) My companion is certain that she's heading out because she's been here for seven and a half months now. It's quite likely (particularly because I am more healthy than is normal here in Huaraz--Aside from a bit ofdizzyness the first morning, the first time I fasted, and after the trip to Pastoruri, I've been fine), but I keep telling her that she doesn't know yet. :) We find out the changes tonight. (Aaahh!)

It's amazing how much spending every hour of every day with someone teaches you about living the Gospel. I don't think that I'm the easiest person to live with, but it always depends a lot on the combination. I tend to be a bit of a pessimest (how do you spell that, anyway?) and I've had to learn to just hum my favorite hymn and let a lot of things go. I'm not very good at this, but I hope to be in a year when I finish. Yes, recién cumplí 6 meses en la misión. Friday was my 6-month mark. I feel, in some ways, that I'm not progressing fast enough, that I'm not applying what I learn well enough. Then again, patience has never been one of my great virtues. :) But I do like to improve and I find great satisfaction in doing what I feel is right and following the Holy Ghost. Really, it's the only way to be able to grow spiritually and feel the love of God in one's life. The beautiful thing about the Gospel is that it requires constant repentance and forgiveness in order to progress. I think if I focus myself more on truly repenting every day, I'll find that I get more rapidly where the Lord wants me to be. 

If you can get in contact with Rachael Bakaitis and tell her my blog address, I'd be very grateful. I sent her a letter to the address that I have from DearElder, but it came back to me...so...yeah. Thanks. :)

I don't know why, but I have this strange impulse to start all of my sentences with ''dude.''  I don't know why. I don't speak that much English. I have to stop myself because it really isn't missionary appropriate. haha. 

Thanks for writing me, Mom and Grandma!  Also, Li, I got your letter this last week. I know God will guide you. He always does. Sometimes it takes alot of faith and humility and a lot more faith to quiet down our fears and our frustrations enough to just listen. The wonderful, beautiful thing  about it is that he knows all of our fears and frustrations and he will help us get over them, if we let him. And then he'll lead us where we need to go. It 's crazy. And awesome. Crazy awesome, if you will.

Right now, we are teaching a bunch of awesome people. Ricardo, who has a baptismal date for this Saturday, didn't come to church this week. And we haven't been able to teach  him because weekdays he works until  8:30 or 9 every day. Or later.  He 's a really sharp young man, though. We  need to call him to see what happened. His phone was turned off the last time we tried. Also, we have a huge group of children that we teach, and they come to church and to activities (not all of them, but some). We need to find some way to get through to their parents. What do you think would work? They're super awesome, sharp kids. I just love them. 

I know that God has a plan for us and that he loves us. I know Jesus Christ lives and that he is our  Savior. And I know that as we sacrifice for them, we become more like them, because they have sacrificed everything for us. And as we serve and sacrifice, we come to understand better and feel more the love that they have for us.  I  encourage you to read the conference talk that Elder Oaks gave in this last conference about sacrifice. I read it this  morning. Can you tell?

As I have loved you..

So, yesterday I gave a talk. At one point I was saying (in Spanish) ''sometimes we don't know how'' to share the gospel, but at the end of the sentence, instead of saying ''como'' (which is ''how'' in Spanish) I started to say ''how''. I caught myself, of course, but the elders and a few of the youth who study English caught it. It was kinda funny. Fortunately, I speak Spanish well, so it wasn't embarrassing, just funny. And most of the congregation didn't notice.

 

One of these days I will take the time to send you pictures. I keep planning for it, but there isn't time or the computer doesn't let me. There should be pics on the blog, because we had interviews with President Turk this week.

 

I've been thinking alot lately about how important it is to appreciate and forgive--ourselves and others. When we can do that, we are happier and we enjoy serving. It's important to express ourselves positively. That's always been a big challenge for me. Gratefully, I have a lot of friends and family who are very positive and loving, and it helps me to feel the Saviors love and compassion. Thanks for being awesome! I love you!!!

Daisy-poppin' awesomeness

Hermana Eddings and I have this joke. One time we were talking about how awesome it is when you have really great leaders who are willing to help you out and who help you to be a better missionary. She called them ''Daisy-popping'' leaders. It's like when they walk, daisies pop out of the ground where they've stepped. It's a principle that applies to all people, really. There are some people who have the gift of making the world around them happier. They aren't easily angered, they care about people, and they make you feel like a worthwhile person. It manifests itself more when we're put in leadership positions. Some people pop daisies. And some people really don't. 

What makes a person a daisy-popper?

Probably the most important ingredient is love. And when I say love I mean charity. The pure love of Christ. Daisy-popping people are kind and long-suffering. They aren't easily provoked. They bear all things, believe all things, hope all things, and endure all things. They are sincerely interested in helping others and making them happier. I am not one of these people. But I've decided that I'm going to repent and be better about it, and try to be a daisy-popping follower. I'm going to complain less (it's a process), I'm going to serve more, and I'm going to try to make the conversations that I have uplifting for others. I want other people to be happier for having talked to me. I want them to have more faith in Christ and more faith in themselves. I want them to feel the love of God for them.

I invite you to pop daisies. :)

Welllll... I don't know what to write. 

Yes I do. 

This week I have a goal to be more positive, so I am going to make a list of things that I am grateful for.

I am grateful for

Fantastic peruvian food

A wonderful companion who is super patient and loving and willing to sacrifice and learn

My leaders who are awesome because they put up with me when I complain about the rules and they teach me how to be a better missionary

My awesome mission president and his wife, who are so loving and so inspiring. 

My district, which is the greatest. I've always been in districts with 4 hermanas. Always. And I'm starting to appreciate it more. 

The opportunity to serve a mission, which few people have and even fewer sisters have. 

The blessing of the restored gospel in my life

The atonement of Jesus Christ and the opportunity it gives me to return to the presence of my heavenly Father

Heath and strength and a mind that can learn quickly. 

Talents that the Lord has given me to be able to serve others

Trials that help me grow stronger and more compassionate

MY AWESOME FAMILY that supports me and loves me and that will one day be eternal.
